The interfaculty bioinformatics facility provides services and expertise to assist researchers in data analysis and project planning in the context of next generation sequencing (NGS). Since NGS technologies change quite rapidly, we encourage researchers to discuss the project prior to starting with our bioinformatics experts and – if required – experts from the NGS lab. During this discussion, we assist the users to choose the right technology as well as to identify appropriate tools for later data analysis (e.g. web-based, open source or commercial tools) to solve the project. However, very often researchers neither have time or knowledge nor the compute resources to conduct the analysis of the vast data. Therefore, we provide resource hungry data analyses including read mapping, de-novo assembly, mutant screening, transcriptomics, epigenomics, whole exome and genome analysis. Besides, we are also very interested to collaborate in large and complex projects.
In addition, the University of Bern has a partnership with Vital-IT (Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics), which allows researchers to access Vital-IT’s computer and storage infrastructures to conduct high throughput data analyses.
