Biomolecules, cells, plants and animals are the center of teaching and research in the Department of Biology at the University of Berne.
Our three Institutes of Cell Biology, Plant Sciences and Ecology & Evolution focus on biological processes reaching from the molecular level to cell structures to plant and animal species and their communities.
The Department of Biology employs over 60 teachers, more than 30 of which are professors. We have ca. 40 research groups, all equipped with modern facilities, offering students majoring in biology attractive research options.
Please do not send the head of department any e-mail with questions regarding our study programs or study grants. Instead please get in touch directly with the heads of the program you are interested in:
Master of Science in Ecology and Evolution: Prof. Madhav Thakur
Master of Science in Molecular Life Sciences: Prof. Norbert Polacek
Master of Science in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology: Dr. Rémy Bruggmann
